Difference Between Being Successful & Feeling Successful

by | Apr 25, 2018 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

It all starts with this Word ” Successful”, everybody on this planet wants to be Successful. Be it, Successful Entrepreneurs, Successful Business Man or Business Woman, Successful Doctor, Successful Engineer and the list goes on…But what is the meaning of being Successful? How do you define it?

Do you define it by being the best in the industry, having a big house, a sports car and the best gadgets? Or, do you define it by bringing a change in the industry altogether and improving the lives of other human beings?

Being Successful doesn’t have one common definition, it is relative and varies from one individual to another and almost every one is right based on the criteria they define it. But today, I thought why not talk about REAL SUCCESS. A Success that is not defined by the amount of money you have in your bank account, or the goals you have achieved or how big your company is or even how famous you are. It is something which only a few % of people could achieve or feel.

The difference between being Successful and feeling Successful is huge. Somebody may look Successful but they may not feel Successful. Let me share a story that will bring out the major difference between these two terms :

There is this event which happens every year in the United States called as “Gathering of the Titans”, in this gathering you would find 40 -50 high-performing entrepreneurs, some of the very powerful businessmen/women and one can only be invited. This gathering is not some fancy meeting with expensive dinners, playing golf, swimming and having fun. This is totally different, these 50 entrepreneurs gather together to share their ideas and undergo training for almost 4 continuous days starting from morning till the night and it’s pretty rigorous. During one such meeting, one day the speaker of the event asked all the entrepreneurs to raise their hands who had achieved their financial goals of the year that they set for the company, and almost 80 % of them raised their hands. GREAT RIGHT? You must be thinking surely these guys must be successful, Wait for it,

Next, the speaker asked, out of the people who raised their hands, how many of them actually FEEL SUCCESSFUL, this was the game changer, 80 % of entrepreneurs who had raised their hands up, put it all down. Shocking right, what changed?

Later these entrepreneurs were interviewed alone of why they don’t feel successful, and they all said one common thing, they said: ” We don’t know what’s wrong, we make a lot of profit/money, have everything a man/woman dreams of, but something’s missing“. I ask you now, What do you think that something means?

Let me tell you what they are missing, they are missing Contribution, they don’t have a purpose that is bigger than themselves, they are missing WHY THEY ARE IN THE BUSINESS. A person that doesn’t have a clear sense of why they are in the business will always struggle long term. There is a hormone which is released when somebody contributes and that hormone is responsible for how you feel deep down inside, it is called Serotonin. The more you release this, the more you feel you’ve contributed to something far more valuable than yourself – OTHERS.

Just achieving your goals doesn’t give you happiness, you need a system where your morals & values all come together and are aligned with what you truly believe in, and the reason why you are doing it has to be bigger than yourself. Only then, we will be able to truly FEEL SUCCESSFUL. So let’s strive for something big, something bigger than ourselves, something that will add value not just to your life but others as well!!
